We are Strong Towns Grand Rapids

We are looking to make our city better for all.  As part of the Strong Towns movement, we align with the following five core campaign ideas.

  • SAFE & PRODUCTIVE STREETS

  • TRANSPARENT LOCAL ACCOUNTING

  • END HIGHWAY EXPANSIONS

  • END PARKING MANDATES AND SUBSIDIES

  • INCREMENTAL HOUSING

Another crash leaving a bicyclist dead. People bike at all times of the year, and with the proper infrastructure this person may have made it home last night. We need our local leaders to take action and prevent any more deaths on our city streets.

In 1929, Grand Rapids celebrated new streetcars by parading the old streetcars through town, endings at the old West Michigan Fairgrounds, now Comstock Park, and lighting them ablaze. Over 50,000 people were excited for new streetcars, improved route
In 1929, Grand Rapids celebrated new streetcars by parading the old streetcars through town, endings at the old West Michigan Fairgrounds, now Comstock Park, and lighting them ablaze. Over 50,000 people were excited for new streetcars, improved routes, and new tracks. Less than 10 years later the tracks were ripped out, pending a replacement that never came. Imagine if we could get just 500 people to be that excited about new busses? That would be great.
